Our Story
Fortino’s has been family-owned since 1907. Louis Fortino, an immigrant from Italy, bought a small fruit and cigar shop in Muskegon in 1907, moved the business to Grand Haven in 1911, and built the store at our current Washington Ave location in 1923.
Yes. In 1941, Paul and Mary Jane Fortino turned the family produce business into a gourmet food store. Of the roughly 30 small grocers in town at the end of World War II, Fortino’s is the only one still open.
Kelly Larson has owned Fortino’s since 2015, when third-generation owners Ken and Margaret Michlitsch retired.
